Look to be Touched

by Megan on June 12, 2011

It was a gray day, I was alone for most of it.  Not sad, just meandering.  I got an email from someone – it was an appreciation of my work.

Do you know the power of your attention?

Do you feel appreciated?  I suppose if you are highly successful, if you have a gazillion followers and whatnot you might not be surprised by an email like this one.  Are you jaded?

I felt gifted. I let it into my heart.  I let it encourage me to keep going, which I needed.  And I let it inspire me.

We are always striving for success, for followers and comments and pats on our backs.  But only in a single moment can we feel this gift.  The collection of people and stuff cannot provide this single moment that you can feel all the way to the inside.

I want to try to appreciate others more, from the very center of my heart, the way this person appreciated me.

I’d like to start with you.  With all there is to read, you are taking time to read this.  Thank you so much.

If you can’t think of someone to appreciate every day, perhaps you need to LOOK TO BE TOUCHED.  A post you found meaningful?  Someone who always looks lovely?  Your guy at the deli who knows your order?  Maybe the person in front of you that you have stopped seeing with fresh eyes.  (They are not the same person as before.)

Letting your heart soften and your mind organize a well put together thought, you can change the tenor of someone’s day.

(Chocolate macaroons.  While not related to this post, are always nice to look at.  For you!)

Every time you show up in my inbox and twitter stream I say a silent “thank you” that I am so blessed to be a witness to this part of your journey.  You inspire me, you challenge me, you encourage me, you teach me, you thrill me.  Reading your words and watching you dance make me want to choose aliveness on every level.

And while I may not yet know what that means for me, I sure know what it looks like.Thank you, Megan. xoxo

    oh!  thank YOU, Megan.

oooooooooo… your BEAUTY… the Art of who you are, touches me like a rarified jewel scintillating out and piercing me in the most tender places of my heart!  I need you to know this.  I need you to know this is how your bodysoul’s expression impacts me.  I need you to remember this, so if ever there is a time where words are not forthcoming to mirror back your treasured value, that you will not lose touch with this Knowing.

And this from someone who only knows you through this work… and only a short time. As you can hear, your words once again have cracked me open.  There are too many artists I know who have been valued too late!  and lost their lives because of it.  Too many who hang in opulent galleries yet who lived in horrid poverty and ultimate suicide.  And as you write to, not just artists… this is true for all humans = Artists.  My banker.  My grocery store clerks. My students.  My family.  Friends.   It is so horrible when we lose this opportunity.  I thank you for this reminder of the power each of us wields in this place… unwittingly, we hold the keys to others lives!   unwittingly we hold the power to the ultimate realization of their profundity.
    Thank you.
